Question

Mr. Anderson drove 168 miles in 3 and 1/2 hours. HE then drove the next 2 and 1/4 hours at a rate of 5 miles an hour faster than the first rate. How many miles did Mr.Anderson Drive during the 5 and 3/4 hours?
Please answer ASAP for brainliest answer and thanks!

2 Answer

  • Speed 1 = 168 miles / 2.25 hours = 48 miles/hour
    Speed 2 = 48 + 5 miles/hour = 53 miles/hour
    Distance 1 = 168 miles
    Distance 2 = 2.25 hours X 53 miles/hour =119.25 miles
    Total Distance = Distance 1 + Distance 2 = 168 + 119.25 miles = 287.25 miles
    Or 287 and 1/4 miles
  • The distance traveled in the period of 5 and 3\4 hours will be 287 miles and 1\4 miles.

Calculating the velocity of each moment we have:

    • Speed 1 :

    [tex]168 miles / 2.25 hours = 48 miles/hour[/tex]

    • Speed 2:

    [tex]48 + 5 miles/hour = 53 miles/hour[/tex]

calculating the distance of each moment we have:

    • Distance 1 = 168 miles

    • Distance 2:

    [tex]2.25 hours X 53 miles/hour =119.25 miles[/tex]

Calculating the total distance we have:

    Total Distance = Distance 1 + Distance 2

    = 168 + 119.25 miles = 287.25 miles
