Question

A client with hepatic cirrhosis begins to exhibit slurred speech, confusion, drowsiness, and a flapping tremor. Based upon this assessment, which prescribed diet would the nurse anticipate?.

1 Answer

  • Based upon this assessment, the prescribed diet the nurse would

    anticipate is moderate protein.

Hepatic cirrhosis means the liver being damaged thereby allowing the build

up of toxins in the body which causes slurred speech, confusion, drowsiness,

and a flapping tremor . When the liver is damaged, it stops the production of

    certain protein in the body.

The patient should be given moderate protein to supplement the protein

which the liver isn't able to produce and also to keep in mind the metabolic

challenges and toxins which is why high protein shouldn't be given.
