Question

Why is graphite used instead of gold or copper wires to conduct electricity in very hot situations such as an industrial kiln?

2 Answer

  • The strong bonds give graphite high boiling and melting points, while the weak bonds make graphite soft and flexible.
  • Graphite has strong bonds which gives it high boiling and melting points. With a high boiling point and melting points graphite can not melt easily, and thus is why it is preferred in hot situations such as an industrial kiln.
