Question

How would I know whether the graph of a given ellipse equation is vertical or horizontal?

1 Answer

  • When the equation is in the form
      (x/a)² + (y/b)² = 1
The constants "a" and "b" are the semi-axis lengths in the corresponding (x and y) directions. If a > b, the long axis is horizontal. If b > a, the reverse is true.
