  • D.) At the bottom of a lake buried by a landslide
  • Answer: D. at the bottom of the lake buried by a landslide.

Fossils are the preserved remains or traces of the animals or plants that were previously living on earth. Fossils are formed when soft tissues of plants and animals parts gets decomposed by the action of the microbes present in the soil, and hard traces of bones, wood, shells and exoskeletons are left. These remains buried deep inside the earth by several layers of soil and debris. Soil bearing these remains gets compacted and transform into rocks. Hence, fossil bearing rocks are formed.

At the bottom of a lake buried by a landslide is the most suitable environment for the preservation of fossil remains. As, due to the effect of landslide more number of soil and debris layer gets deposited over the fossil remains. Hence, will promote fossil preservation.
